Literature review of accessibility measures and models used in land use and transportation planning in last 5 years

Abstract: Since its inception accessibility has undergone various changes in the way it is defined, measured, and modeled. The paper reviews the recent advancements made in the accessibility measures along with the models used in different applications of accessibility related to land use and transportation. The measures of accessibility are grouped under infrastructure-based, location-based, and person-based measures. The paper finds that although the person-based measures are statistically robust and theoretically sou… Show more

“…Most of the existing models are as follows: Integrated Model of Residential and Employment Location (IMREL) [ 62 ]; Marcial Echenique and Partners (MEPLAN) [ 24 ]; Transportation and Environment Strategy Impact Simulator (TRESIS) [ 63 ]; Microeconomic Land Use Transportation Model (METROSIM) [ 64 ]; Modelo de Uso de Suelo de Santiago (MUSSA) [ 65 ]; Production, Exchange, Consumption, Allocation, System (PECAS) [ 66 ]; Random-Utility URBAN (RURBAN) [ 67 ]; Transport and Land Use Model Integration Program (TLUMIP) [ 10 ]; Transport and Land Use Model (TRANUS) [ 25 ]; Urban Simulation (URBANSIM) [ 10 ]; and DELTA, which is an abbreviation for different five sub-models. The transition and growth model; location and property market model; employment and status and commuting model; development model; and area quality model (DELTA) [ 1 ] have detailed sub-models for metropolitan land and housing. These models use a multi-industry, multi-regional input–output system to forecast production and consumption positions in the urban area, where households of different types are viewed as labor-producing industries and commodity-consuming ones.…”
