Literature review on superhydrophobic self‐cleaning surfaces produced by electrospinning

Abstract: Self-cleaning surface is potentially a very useful addition for many commercial products due to economic, aesthetic, and environmental reasons. Super-hydrophobic selfcleaning, also called Lotus effect, utilizes right combination of surface chemistry and roughness to force water droplets to form high contact angle on a surface, easily roll off a surface and pick up dirt particles on its way. Electrospinning is a promising technique for creation of superhydrophobic self-cleaning surfaces owing to a wide set of p… Show more

“…Several techniques exist for enhancing surface roughness to materials for biomimetic and non-wetting applications, such as layer-by-layer assembly 15 , micropatterning/microtexturing 102 , electrospinning 1,5,13 , and electrospraying 32 . Of these approaches, electrospinning and electrospraying are particularly attractive methods due to their scalability and general compatibility with underlying substrates.…”

“…These surfaces are fabricated by introducing high surface roughness on low surface energy materials to establish a resulting airliquid-solid interface that resists wetting [1][2][3][4][5][6] . Depending on the fabrication method, thin or multilayered superhydrophobic surfaces, multilayered superhydrophobic substrate coatings, or even bulk superhydrophobic structures can be prepared.…”
