Local Order and Mechanical Properties of the γ Matrix of Nickel-Base Superalloys

Abstract: For the first time Y single crvstals, closely matching with the chemical compositi& of&e m&ices of the industrial si&e crystal suoerallovs AM3 and MC2 have been made. Macroscopic tensile ieits as wkll as "in situ" deformation tests show that in boih alloys a strong localization is the main characteristic of the deformation at different scales of observation. Collective movements of dense planar arrays of dislocations are observed related to the presence of order which aonears to be different depending on the a… Show more

“…Clement et al [22] examined the deformation of solid solution nickel alloys with a composition approaching that of the ␥ phase in nickel-based superalloys. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations of the alloys were only able to confirm the presence of precipitates after an annealing heat treatment; in the unannealed samples the precipitates were presumed to be too fine to be observed.…”

“…These parameters were used directly. To obtain the effect of temperature, the data summarized by Roth et al and those of Clement et al 11,12 and Nitz et al 13 were used to derive a semi-empirical relation between chemistry, temperature and friction stress. The form used for the friction stress is given by the following equation (ref.…”
