“…However, the pulse temperature was significantly lower, determined by only 2% of the energy triggered pulse, due to LFL which distributes the energy over a large substrate area. Because of the pulsed nature of PLD, energy and temperature effects occur as a sequence of short pulses [3,22]. Temperature pulses originating from condensation enthalpy should be added to the temperature pulses caused by 'condensation' of ion energy.…”

“…Second, the field dependence of the critical current, i.e., the I c (B, θ) characteristics, set in the simulation was measured in 2021 for the HTS tapes manufactured in that year [48]; by contrast, the experimental coil was wound using the same type of HTS tape but was manufactured in 2022. It has been recognized that the I c (B, θ) characteristics, even for the same type of HTS tapes, may vary a lot among different manufacturing batches [56,57]. The simulated I c of the HTS coil is tested to be 92.8 A, while that in the experiment in figure 4(a) is 77.2 A.…”

“…In the present work, we explore the use of metal substrates on which are grown highly biaxially oriented thin films of YSZ (1500 nm) and CeO 2 (50 nm) made using ion beam- or alternating beam-assisted deposition (ABAD), a scalable and cost-effective technique which has already found commercial applicability for the deposition of YSZ films in the superconductor industry. , We follow a μSOFC device fabrication procedure as set out in Figure . We show that mesoporous VAN LSCF cathodes of high quality can be easily grown on stainless steel substrates with biaxially textured YSZ electrolyte–CeO 2 bilayers prepared by ABAD.…”
