“…These data are consistent with studies in rainbow trout (Cheng and Hardy, 2002) and channel catfi sh (Robinson and Daniels, 1987;Robinson and Brent, 1989). After a 3-year rainbow trout feeding trial with 58.8% dietary CM, total muscle gossypol content was <1 μg/g wet sample, which is far lower than the limit set by the FDA (450 mg/kg) (Lee et al, 2006). Based on these results, humans can safely consume fi llets produced by fi sh fed CM-containing diets.…”

“…The same growth performance and feed utilization were observed under these conditions as fi sh fed a complete FM diet during outdoor culture. Large rainbow trout (1.5 year old adults and broodstock) fed CM-containing feed for more than 9 months do not show depressed growth (Dabrowski et al, 2000;Blom et al, 2001;Rinchard et al, 2003;Lee et al, 2006). In contrast, lower growth was observed in both sexes of mature tilapia ( Oreochromis sp.)…”

“…Owing to its high protein value for animals (Alford et al, 1996) as well as low market price in comparison with other legumes and fish meal, cottonseed meal (CSM) consequently has an immense potential for incorporation in high-protein aquafeeds. Lee et al (2006) summarized a series of studies in rainbow trout where CSM replaced fish meal entirely over the 3-year period without significantly impacting growth rate of female and male rainbow trout. In the study of Robinson and Li (1994), channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus, were fed to satiation a diet containing 51% CSM with supplemented lysine (0.65%).…”
