Introduction:Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is the therapeutic tool implemented in the treatment of dry eye, characterized by the emission of waves of 500-1200nm in the region of the upper and lower eyelids. Dry eye is a recurring complaint in ophthalmology offi ces and has an impact on the patient's quality of life. It results from dysfunction of the meibomian glands, duct obstruction, and quantitative and qualitative changes in glandular secretion. It is manifested by dryness and irritation, foreign body sensation, burning, tearing, and eye fatigue. The available treatments are short term palliative with unsatisfactory results. Objective:To determine through a literature review, the benefi t of using intense pulsed light for dry eye treatment. Methodology: We searched the Cochrane database, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar (gray literature) using the keywords for an independent, blinded, peer-reviewed selection of articles to be met following pre-established criteria.Results and discussion: Studies evaluated the use of IPL in patients with dry eye, despite the benefi t found, focus on the objective and subjective assessment of the eye more frequently. Conclusion:Evidence-based clinical guidelines are required for the use of intense pulsed light in the treatment of Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), as well as a device and algorithm for indications of therapeutic use. Background Rosacea, a chronic facial and ocular inflammatory disease, is readily visible with consequential adverse psychosocial impacts. Progress in epidemiology, pathophysiology, treatments, psychosocial and quality of life impact has led to improved outcomes. Additionally, there has been a transition to updated clinical criteria for diagnosis and classification, the phenotype approach, based on rosacea‐associated features. Objective Our objective was to identify current evidence‐based standards of treatment for rosacea highlighting recently approved interventions and including innovative options. Methods Reviews establishing current standards of care published over the past three years and English language clinical studies of rosacea treatment from 2018‐ March 2021 were included. In addition to pivotal trials, the latter were also selected based on innovation and practicality of the intervention. Results In addition to treatments identified in guidelines and systematic reviews, additional options derive from use in other dermatological conditions ‐ such as botulinum toxin, hydroxychloroquine, photodynamic therapy, radiofrequency with or without microneedling ‐ or from other medical conditions, such as artemether and sumatriptan. Conclusion We provide a template of longitudinal care for rosacea based on features divided into current standards and additional options. The latter may provide the impetus for further research and development to provide options with greater efficacy, longer remissions and/or lower risk of adverse events to improve outcomes in patients with rosacea.

Ocular rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the eyes and periocular skin as part of the broader cutaneous rosacea skin disease. Cutaneous rosacea is common, affecting approximately 5.5% of the global population, where up to 72% of patients will develop ocular involvement either before or after the cutaneous disease. Clinical features of ocular rosacea include Meibomian gland disease, blepharitis and conjunctivitis. Ocular rosacea reduces quality of life through various potential mechanisms including anxiety, social withdrawal and physical discomfort. If left untreated, ocular rosacea can reduce visual acuity and in severe cases, vision loss. Several topical and systemic treatment options are available, with efficacies based on their anti‐inflammatory properties. This review focuses on the clinical features of ocular rosacea, differential diagnoses and treatment options with the aim of aiding clinicians involved in the care of rosacea patients to better identify onset of the ocular manifestations of rosacea and prevent its severe complications.
