Long term survival and growth performance of selected seedling types in Cedar ( ) afforestation in Turkey

Abstract: Aim:Methodology: Results: Interpretation:Three different seedling types that are bare rooted, ENSO and polyethylene containerized seedlings are mainly used for Cedar afforestation in Turkey, however research on long-term field performance of these seedling types is meagre. The present study aims at comparing the survival and growth rate in order to determine the best seedling types for afforestation and also exploring their economic value at different sites. The study was carried out at two different experiment… Show more

“…It is evident from the above that the survival rate is highly variable. It is dependent on many factors, such as weather (precipitation, temperature), damage by game and competition between tree species, and it can vary from one to tens of per cents (Cicek et al, 2010;Erkan et al, 2017;Granger & Buckley, 2021;Repáč & Belko, 2020).…”

“…Container seedlings have advantages [ 1 4 ] over bareroot seedlings in terms of roots intactness, survival rate and growth potential, and are especially suitable for seedling species with sensitivity to transplantation and areas with harsh site conditions [ 5 ]. Container seedlings grow in separated containers and obtain water, air, mineral nutrients and physical support from the limited medium in containers, making it a unique and critical process to fill containers with growing media [ 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Fidan dikiminde kaplı fidanların başarıyı arttırdığını kanıtlayan çeşitli araştırmalar yapılmıştır (Sutherland & Day, 1988;Landis, 1990;Aphalo & Rikala, 2003;Haase et al, 2006). Bununla birlikte, tüplü fidanların yetiştirilmesi, arazi hazırlığı, fidan dikim çukurlarının açılması, fidanların araziye nakli için yapılan masraflar, çıplak köklü olarak dikilen fidanlara göre çok daha yüksek olmaktadır (Walter et al, 2013;Erkan & Aydin, 2017).…”
