Low‐power laser irradiation promotes cell proliferation by activating PI3K/Akt pathway

Abstract: Low-power laser irradiation (LPLI) can stimulate cell proliferation through a wide network of signals. Akt is an important protein kinase in modulating cell proliferation. In this study, using real-time single-cell analysis, we investigated the activity of Akt and its effects on cell proliferation induced by LPLI in African green monkey SV40-transformed kidney fibroblast cells (COS-7). We utilized a recombinant fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) Akt probe (BKAR) to dynamically detect the activation … Show more

“…LLLT is a stimulator of the ongoing biological process in tissue and has been found to be effective in modulating cell activity and production of endogenous molecules, which are also involved in orthodontic tooth movement [26,27]. The therapy has been found to be capable of acceleration of macrophage migration and increasing their phagocytosis, increasing production of cytokines, prostaglandins, and TGF-β, activation of BMP, stimulation of bone tissue metabolism, and improving neo-angiogenesis and flow in microcirculation during bone healing [8,28,29].…”

“…Other groups demonstrated that the effect of PBM might be derived from the activation of signaling pathways, such as the MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathways, which control cell proliferation, antiinflammatory effects, and regulation of gene expression [41,42]. In keeping with a study showing an anti-inflammatory effect of PBM against IL-1β and TNF-α through modulation of NF-κB activation [39], our group speculated that this antiinflammatory effect might also include the modulation of ECM-modifying enzymes.…”

“…27 Recently, it has been debated whether He-Ne laser light can activate a number of signaling pathways including MAPK/ERK, Src, Akt and RTK/PKCs signaling pathway. 6,[28][29][30] Nonreceptor tyrosine kinases are critical for the regulation of fundamental cellular processes including cell proliferation, adhesion, migration and survival.…”
