“…SSH is a common technique to screen and clone differentially expressed genes [22,27,28]. In this study, we applied this technique to identify up-regulated macrophage genes in response to the stimulation of refolded raLECT2m.…”

“…Analysis of the sbIL-1b sequence with the SignalP software showed that no apparent signal peptide was present, which is in common with other IL-1b sequences [44,5,30], indicating that the molecule is secreted through a non-classical pathway. Multiple alignment indicated that sbIL-1b had no aspartic acid residue in the region where interleukin-1b-converting enzyme (ICE) cuts the mammalian IL-1b precursor [6], but the result is not surprising since this is observed in all non-mammalian IL-1b genes sequenced to date [45]. However, one putative cleavage site, Tyr-x instead of Asp-x, in sbIL-1b was determined by multiple alignment, suggesting sbIL-1b was cut between Tyr 87 and Thr 88 and gave a putative mature peptide composed of 166-amino-acid residues.…”

“…In catshark [21], the IL-1b was expressed slightly in blood, brain, Leydig organ and liver, intensely in spleen and testes, but not in the gill, heart, kidney and muscle tissue. In eel [45], the Figure 7 Purification of recombinant sbIL-1b. “…Owing to the presence of an IL-1 family signature [ 214 ], as well as overall greater homology with IL-1β, IL-1 genes in fish are typically regarded as IL-1b orthologs. IL-1β has been identified in a host of teleost fish species including cyprinids [ 215 ], salmonids [ 216 , 217 ], perciformes [ 218 , 219 , 220 , 221 , 222 ], gadiformes [ 223 ], and anguilliformes [ 224 ]. A few studies have even indicated the presence of multiple IL-1β genes in rainbow trout [ 225 ], common carp [ 226 ], salmon [ 227 ], and catfish [ 228 ].…”
