Genus Sterculia possess various types of compounds which have therapeutic potential. This study was aimed to explore the anticonvulsant, CNS depressant, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic activities of Sterculia diversifolia stem bark and leaves extracts in mice. The secondary metabolites in MESD (methanolic extract of Sterculia diversifolia) was characterized by UV, IR, 1 H-NMR, 13 C NMR and 2D-NMR spectra in combination with EI-MS spectrometric techniques. Anticonvulsant and CNS depressant effect of MESD was assessed using strychnine-induced convulsion and phenobarbitone-induced hypnotic protocol. Analgesic activity was performed by acetic acid induced writhing and hot plate test while anti-inflammatory and anti-pyretic activities were assessed by carrageenan induced right hind paw edema and brewer's yeast induced pyrexia. The isolation of compounds with different elucidation techniques (1 H-NMR, 13 C NMR and 2D-NMR spectra in combination with EI-MS spectrometric techniques) led to luteolin, isoquercitrin and ursolic acid. The current study results showed that crude MESD significantly (p < 0.05) delayed the onset, shortened the duration and offered protection against strychnine-induced convulsion. Crude MESD significantly (p < 0.05) prolonged the time of phenobarbitone-induced hypnosis. The analgesic response of crude MESD stem bark was more significant as compare to crude MESD leaves, while crude MESD also showed significant anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity through dose dependent phenomenon. These significant results might be due to flavonoids (luteolin, isoquercitrin) and triterpenoids (ursolic acid) presence, though the involvement of other biologically active secondary metabolites cannot be overlooked.

In the current study, a novel method was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by utilizing Quercus baloot aqueous extract as a reducing agent. The biosynthesized AgNPs were then subjected to various physicochemical characterizations to assess their effectiveness against microbial familiarity. The characterization techniques included ultraviolet‐visible spectro‐photometry (UV‐Vis), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray diffractometer (XRD), and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The UV‐Vis analysis revealed a distinctive spectral peak at 420 nm, indicating the presence of silver nanoparticles. SEM imaging displayed the nanoparticle size range of about 100 nm at a magnification of 30,000x, while TEM demonstrated that the nanoparticles had a spherical morphology with a size of approximately 100 nm. Moreover, the crystalline structure of the silver nanoparticles was confirmed by XRD analysis, further validating their successful synthesis. Additionally, FTIR analysis provided evidence of the presence of phytochemicals involved in synthesizing the AgNPs. the biosynthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were evaluated for antibacterial and antifungal activities. The AgNPs displayed substantial efficacy against common bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus (71%), Escherichia coli (59%), and Klebsiella pneumoniae (64%). Furthermore, they demonstrated significant antifungal activity against plant pathogenic fungi, namely Aspergillus niger (65%), Aspergillus flavus (70%) and Fusarium oxysporum (61%).

The present study was conducted to evaluate the stem bark and leaf of Sterculia diversifolia for larvicidal, leishmanicidal, insecticidal and anthelmintic activities. In the larvicidal activity, dichloromethane and ethyl acetate fractions of both stem bark and leaf showed significant results, while the ethyl acetate fraction showed mild activity (IC50: 70.09 ± 0.09 μg/mL; 71.25 ± 0.01 μg/mL). In the insecticidal activity of the stem bark, n-hexane fraction showed mild activity (20-40% mortality) against all three subjects, while the insecticidal activity of leaf, methanolic extract and n-hexane fractions showed moderate activity (60% mortality) against Rhyzopertha dominica and Callosobruchus analis. In the anthelmintic activity of stem bark and leaf, ethyl acetate fraction exhibited activity in a dose-dependent manner giving time of paralysis and death shorter followed by dichloromethane fraction with 200 mg/mL concentration. Hence, it is clear that S. diversifolia stem bark and leaf possess larvicidal, leishmanicidal, insecticidal and anthelmintic agents.
