Feasibility and efficacy of enhanced recovery after surgery protocol in Chinese elderly patients with intracranial aneurysm

Abstract: ObjectiveIntracranial aneurysm is a kind of severe intracranial disease mainly responsible for subarachnoid hemorrhage, and the rupture of intracranial aneurysm results in a mortality rate of 30%–40%. For the first time in the world, this study aimed to assess the feasibility and efficacy of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) protocol in Chinese elderly patients with intracranial aneurysm.MethodsIn this study, 300 elderly patients with intracranial aneurysm were recruited and divided into two groups as fol… Show more

“…Endovascular coiling or microsurgical clipping have been utilized to prevent future rupture of unruptured aneurysm in patients with high risk of rupture [4]. Although significant progress has been made in IA surgical operation, poor post-operative recovery is still presented in IA patients [5]. The tough situation of IA treatment makes it necessary to further explore the mechanism and find a new therapeutic strategy.…”

“…Subsequently, various authors have assessed ERAS protocols in patients undergoing craniotomy for varied pathologies. [4][5][6][7] We conducted a systematic review to examine evidence of advantages of ERAS protocols compared with conventional management in patients undergoing craniotomy. This systematic review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines; full details of the search strategy and article screening are available in the Supplementary Material (Supplemental Digital Content 1: PRISMA flowchart, http://links.lww.com/JNA/A359; Supplemental Digital Content 2: Details of search strategy, http://links.lww.com/JNA/A360).…”

“…After removal of duplicates, 97 records were screened of which 93 were excluded because they were not RCTs. Of the 4 studies that met the original inclusion criteria, [4][5][6][7] one study 4 was subsequently retracted 8 and therefore excluded, leaving 3 studies available for qualitative analysis (Supplemental Digital Content 1: PRISMA flowchart, http://links.lww.com/ JNA/A359). Continuous data were converted to the mean difference using the inverse variance method and an overall mean difference was calculated.…”
