This paper presents a discussion on constructing a wireless ad hoc network using unattended ground visual sensors. The IEEE 802. 1 1 WLAN standard is used to implement a single-hop ad hoc network because of its simplicity. The bandwidth allocation and traffic control between visual sensors is coordinated by the Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol. A ground visual sensor tower is designed for the networking purpose with specially designed video compression, power management, and network module to achieve maximum throughput.
