<title>Use of the immunomodulative influence of low-level laser radiation in the treatment of an autoimmune thyroiditis</title>

Abstract: Use of LLLT for 42 patients with an autoimm.une thyroiditis has shown that the helper function of lymphocytes has decreased, the suppressive activity has increased, the quantity of B-lymphocytes has decreased and the immunoregulative index (Th/T) has been. normalised. The effect of LLLT application was active about 4 months in 78 % ofthe patients. Soft semiconductor laser was used. The radiation was in the infrared range of spectrum, wavelength -890 rim. The technique included cutaneous irradiation of the thym… Show more

“…Moreover, Patients felt better and the size of the thyroid gland decreased (Figure 1). 46 Interestingly, the long-term follow-up of 43 patients for 6 years showed that LLLT was a safe intervention for the treatment of CAT. Moreover, the LT4 dose (μg/d) need for obtaining normal thyroid function significantly decreased in the group treated with LLLT.…”

“…It is possible to directly irradiate the thymus with a focused laser spot through the chest wall . Biphasic dose‐dependent effects might be expected to be associated with irradiation of the thymus area, and could vary from immunostimulation to immunosuppression depending on the cumulative dose applied . Another possible method of light delivery is whole‐body illumination using a whole‐body light bed, “light pod” or a large area light‐emitting diode (LED) array.…”

“…Ainda que os parâmetros do tratamento tenham sido diferentes dos empregados na presente pesquisa, os autores88 verificaram redução de linfócitos B e T citotóxicos, assim como aumento de linfócitos T supressores após a LILT. Tais resultados sugeriram modulação sistêmica da resposta imune, as quais persistiram por quatro meses.…”
