Luteimonas chenhongjianii, a novel species isolated from rectal contents of Tibetan Plateau pika (Ochotona curzoniae)

Abstract: Two Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, bright-yellow-pigmented and rod-shaped bacteria (strains 100069 and 100111T) with a single polar flagellum were isolated from the rectal contents of plateau pika (Ochotona curzoniae). Based on the results of nearly full-length 16S rRNA gene sequence and phylogenetic analyses, strains 100069 and 100111T belong to the genus Show more

“…The morphological traits, chemotaxonomic and phenotypic characteristics were investigated using cells cultured under their optimal conditions (detailed information in the species descriptions), and these four strains and some of their respective reference strains were cultured under the same conditions in parallel, for which all operations were performed as described in a previous study [15]. The cellular fatty acid (CFA) profiles, polar lipids, respiratory quinones, whole-cell sugar and cell-wall peptidoglycan were detected as in previous studies [15,36].…”

“…While studying the microflora diversity of Tibetan Plateau wildlife (PR China; e.g. wild ass, antelope, gazelle, vultures, plateau pika, marmot and snow finch), quite a few novel species have been uncovered in our laboratory, including Nocardioides yefusunii , Streptococcus pantholopis , Microbacterium wangchenii , Actinomyces liubingyangii , Luteimonas chenhongjianii , Lactobacillus xujianguonis and Vagococcus xieshaowenii [11–17]. The 16S rRNA gene sequences (described below) of these four hitherto unknown micro-organisms (zg-686 T , zg-691, HY186 T and HY189) isolated from marmot ( Marmota himalayana ) and wild ass ( Equus kiang ) have low similarity to those of known species in the GenBank database.…”

“…Menaquinones were extracted from 100 mg freeze-dried cells with chloroform-methanol (2 : 1, v/v) solution and analysed as described by Komagata and Suzuki [44] using high-performance liquid chromatography (CTO-20A, Shimadzu). The only respiratory quinone of strain SJ-16 T was ubiquinone Q-8, similar to L. chenhongjianii 100111 T [7], L. terrae JCM 30122 T [45] and other strains in the genus Luteimonas [2].…”
