Machine Learning Based Security Solutions in MANETs: State of the art approaches

Abstract: Machine learning (ML) techniques provide the learning capability to a system and encourage adaptation into the environment, based upon many logical and statistical operations. The prime goal of ML is to recognize the complex patterns and make decisions based on the results. There are various ML algorithms which are implemented to secure the mobile ad-hoc networks. The infrastructure-less environment of MANETs poses a great challenge in implementation of the security systems. The security approaches in MANETs m… Show more

“…Intruders can affect the network's operation via attacking any of the layers like the network layer, physical layer or MAC layer, making MANETs vulnerable in their functionality [5]. Because traditional data security techniques like encryption and authentication cannot give complete protection, Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) technologies are widely utilized for safeguarding MANETs [6].…”

“…Nowadays, the use of MANETs is highly appealing and widespread in a lot of applications such as space communication, disaster relief, mission-critical battlefield communication, road or accident guidance, trade fairs, sports stadiums, shopping malls, and avoiding vehicle crashes [8]. However, MANET properties make the network's environment vulnerable to various types of attacks, including wormholes, black holes, Grey Holes, Rushing, and flood-based attacks [2][3][4][9][10][11]. Many techniques and methods have been developed to deal with these attacks.…”
