Magnetic and dielectric properties of sol-gel derived nanoparticles of double perovskite Y2NiMnO6

Abstract: Nanoparticles of Y2NiMnO6 having diameters around 20 nm were synthesized by a sol-gel method. X-ray data were analysed by Rietveld method. This showed the crystals to have monoclinic structure. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies showed a ratio of Mn3+/Mn4+ equal to 0.64 to be present in the nanocrystals. A small polaron hopping conduction model was found to satisfactorily explain the electrical resistivity behaviour of the samples. The latter exhibited ferromagnetic (FM) properties with a Curie temperatu… Show more

“…It also shows a giant dielectric effect at room temperature [18]. Electrical conduction has been described by polaron hopping mechanism [19]. In this communication, we identify substantial magnetocaloric characteristics in the multiferroic double perovskite Y 2 NiMnO 6 [17].…”

“…A number of studies indicate coexistence of ferroelectric and ferromagnetic properties in several of A 2 MM′O 6 type rare‐earth perovskites . The A 2 MM′O 6 type compositions with lighter rare‐earth ions form cation‐disordered lattices where the dielectric and magnetic properties depend significantly on the sample preparation conditions . Studies on La 2 NiMnO 6 composition show coexistence of monoclinic and rhombohedral phases, and their fraction depend strongly on the sample preparation temperature and atmosphere .…”

“…The YNMO perovskite has been synthesized and their ferromagnetic ordering reported 36,37 . Thin films of YNMO have been also obtained with discrepant structural and magnetic results [38][39][40][41] , and it has been discretely referred as a ferroelectric-ferromagnetic perovskite in some studies 42,43 , although, no direct experimental confirmation of its ferroelectric nature has been yet reported in the literature 44 .…”
