Magneto‐Optical Investigation of the Ground State of the Indirect Free Exciton in Si and Gap

Abstract: Measurements are made of the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) a t the indirect absorption edge of intrinsic Si and GaP a t low temperatures and a t magnetic fields up to5 T. By comparison with wavelength modulated spectra it is concluded that the thresholds of the indirect absorption edge for u+-and o--light are rigidly shifted against each other by the magnetic field.
