Magnetocaloric effect in La0.67Ca0.33MnOδ and La0.60Y0.07Ca0.33MnOδ bulk materials

Abstract: The dependence of magnetization on the applied magnetic field and temperature was measured carefully near their Curie temperatures for two perovskite manganite samples: La0.67Ca0.33MnOδ and La0.60Y0.07Ca0.33MnOδ. It is suggested by the results that these materials can be utilized as both the thermal storage (passive regeneration) and as the working material (active regeneration) in an active magnetic regenerative refrigerator with very large temperature span, for their significant entropy change upon the appli… Show more

“…It is adequate to consider the magnetization curves to be isothermal for a sufficiently low sweeping rate of the magnetic field [5,6,25]. The magnetic entropy change, 2DS M, , can then be calculated by using the magnetization data and the numerical formula [8] …”

“…Up to now, most of MCE applications still remain in the low temperature range ͑,20 K͒ by using paramagnetic salts, e.g., Gd 3 Ga 3 O 12 [2]. For the MCE applications at high temperatures, different types of materials must be used [3][4][5][6]. The MCE in the superparamagnetic nanostructured materials has been recently studied by Shull and co-workers [7][8][9][10].…”

“…For LBMO40 and LCMO40, Tc's of 312 K and 262 K respectively have been identified in keeping with the literature. 26,27 These low Tc's are in line with neither material exhibiting significant magnetic hyperthermia at room temperature.…”

“…In this work, the magnetocaloric effect of the La 0.7 Ba 0.3 Mn 1-x Fe x O 3 compound was investigated. Materials with proper Curie temperature and large spontaneous magnetization have many peculiar properties that are attractive for applications as magnetic refrigerants [9][10][11].…”
