Magnetoluminescence in quantum dots and quantum wires of II–VI diluted magnetic semiconductors

Abstract: We report optical properties of quantum dots and quantum wires of diluted magnetic semiconductors. The quantum dots of Cd1−xMnxSe (x=0.03) show the exciton luminescence at around 2.4 eV, which indicates a strong confinement effect of the exciton energy corresponding to the dot size of 4–6 nm. The Zeeman shift of the exciton luminescence was observed with an effective g value of 91, showing a significant exchange interaction of the excitons with the Mn ions in the dots. The exciton luminescence from the quantum… Show more

“…However, the ionization energy and spin polaronic shift have been investigated in quantum well structure [20,[31][32][33][34][35][36] and Exciton magnetic polarons in DMS-QDs have been investigated experimentally [37,38]. We suggest spinflip Raman scattering as an experimental tool to verify our results.…”

“…Such a QD may be fabricated by the method of evolution of self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) in the Stransky-Krastanow mode as in the case of Cd 1-x Mn x Se QDs or by electron beam lithography and wet chemical etching which is used to fabricate quantum wires [20].…”

“…Recently, semiconductor metal transition in a QWW system has also been predicted [8]. Quantum Wells (QWs) and Quantum Dots (QDs) of Cd 1-x Mn x Se diluted magnetic semiconductors have recently been fabricated and magneto luminescence studies have been carried out [9]. Electron phonon interaction leading to the formation of polarons is reviewed by Wendler [10] and Ridley [11].…”

“…However, few reports attempt to investigate the fabrication process for II-VI-based DMS nanostructures. [9,10] In this paper, we investigated the structural and optical properties of ZnSe-based DMS quantum-well wire (QWW) structures formed by using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and wet chemical etching technique to produce high-quality device-oriented nanostructures.…”
