Magnetostatic Modes of a Ferromagnetic Slab

Abstract: The characteristic modes of a thin slab magnetized in its plane are obtained in the magnetostatic limit, and the mode spectrum and configuration are discussed. The wavelength dependence of magnetostatic mode density is determined and utilized to establish a connection to the modes obtained in the spin-wave approximation. In this geometry the modes lying above the spin-wave band are surface waves, decaying toward the interior of the slab, while volume modes occur in the same frequency range as the long-wavelengt… Show more

“…Since in addition the mode frequency increases with increasing node number these modes are reminiscent of Damon-Eshbach-type modes. 53 The modes observed in the simulations at 0 H bias = 5 mT are disturbed with respect to the orientation of the their nodal lines ͓see upper part of Fig. 9͑b͔͒.…”

“…Under these conditions of weak probe field, the dispersion relation (the relationship between the externally applied magnetic field and the resonant frequency of a magnetostatic mode) is defined by the dimensions of the whole sample and its magnetic properties. In this unperturbed case, the relation between the spatial variation of the precessing magnetic moment and its frequency is well described by existing theory [16]- [18].…”
