Maintenance strategy selection using AHP and ANP algorithms: a case study

Abstract: PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the use of two general purpose decision‐making techniques in selecting the most appropriate maintenance strategy for organizations with critical production requirements.Design/methodology/approachThe Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) and the Analytical Network Process (ANP) are used for the selection of the most appropriate maintenance strategy in a local newspaper printing facility in Turkey.FindingsThe two methods were shown to be effective in choosing a… Show more

“…The equipment is assigned a given maintenance policy depending on the level of risk. In [37], Zaim et al (2012) apply AHP and the Analytic Network Process (ANP) to choose the most appropriate maintenance policy in a local newspaper printing facility in Turkey, while Shahin et al (2012) [38] apply ANP to the machinery in a mining company. In [39], Cavalcante and Lopes (2015) use a multi-attribute value function to choose opportunistic maintenance, preventive maintenance or actions of minimal repairs in a cogeneration system using The only precedent for analysing maintenance in health care organizations is in [42] where Taghipour et al perform a statistical analysis of the maintenance data of complex medical equipment with censoring and missing information for the development of a maintenance/inspection optimization model.…”

“…For a rerun column section in a benzene extraction unit of a chemical plant, the AHP was combined with goal programming for a risk based approach to maintenance policy selection, using only cost and risk as criteria [31]. Finally, the AHP was also successfully used to select the best maintenance policies at a newspaper printing facility [32].…”
