Major Factors Causing Delay in the Delivery of Manufacturing and Building Projects in Saudi Arabia

Abstract: There have been many studies done on the causes of delay on construction projects and building projects all around the world. They use different methods, on different geographical areas, and they come up with different results. There are, however, few studies on industrial and building projects. This paper focuses on industrial/manufacturing projects in Saudi Arabia. The aim of this paper is to identify the major causes of delay in the manufacturing projects in Saudi Arabia. The top causes of delay have been i… Show more

“…Most studies focus on the causes of delay in the construction and building projects. That is another key point that makes this research more valuable (Hussein and Adel, 2019). Article titled “Improving Risk Evaluation in FMEA with Cloud Model and Hierarchical TOPSIS Method,” a new integrated risk priority model, called cloud hierarchical TOPSIS, is developed to identify and evaluate failure modes in FMEA, where the cloud model is used for modeling the uncertainty of linguistic assessments of FMEA team members and the hierarchical TOPSIS is extended to obtain the risk priority of the individuated failure modes.…”

“…Koulinas et al [13] proposed a simulation-based method for determining risks of schedule delay. In addition, Abdellatif and Alshibani [14] specified the main causes of project delays in Saudi Arabia. In project scheduling problems, due to the high importance of balancing objectives such as time, cost, and quality, the problem of balancing time and cost was investigated by Kelly (1961) and Fulkerson (1961).…”

“…Aziz [17] and Ezeldin and Abdel-Ghany [18] agreed that delay in the approval of design documents also contributes to project delay because work can start only when the documents are received. Marzouk and Abdelaty [19], Haq et al [20], and Abdellatif and Alshibani [21] found that a weakness in the employer's ability to make decisions affects the progress of the project.…”
