This study, implemented a simplified model of the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) to assess students' beliefs of business faculty (non-accounting) in Indonesia that alter their subjective norms and attitudes, which then makes them not choose accounting profession as theirs. Through online questionnaires sent to business faculty students (but non-accounting), and, after filtering to some criteria, the sample size collected were totaled 138 data; The study resulted in a simplified reaffirmation of the TRA model as well as revealing that behavior, the normative beliefs of students, by personal attitudes and subjective norms, considered important in predicting decisions of the students to ignore any accounting profession. Thus, through this research, it is recommended to the accounting department and business faculty to recruit professional accountants and bring Indonesian professional accounting board to provide activities that engage and support students learn more about accounting profession. Likewise, accounting lecturer must be more practical rather only theoritical and include interesting lesson techniques for the students. In addition, by delivering internships and seminars as mandatory in the school curriculum, will increase student knowledge and experience. It is also recommended that the application of these programs should be communicated through social media.

Penelitian ini bertujuan melihat serta membuktikan adanya efek dari gender, kesulitan akuntansi, peluang karir dan fenomena sindrom impostor terhadap keputusan mahasiswa dalam memilih jurusan akuntansi PTN atau PTS di Surabaya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif memakai sumber data primer yang didapatkan dari menyebar kuesioner. Populasi penelitian ini merupakan mahasiswa akuntansi dan manajemen program S1 angkatan 2018 di Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Surabaya (UPN Veteran Jawa Timur) dan Perguruan Tinggi Swasta Surabaya (Universitas Surabaya). Pengambilan sampel dihitung memakai persamaan slovin diperoleh sampel 291 mahasiswa. Cara pemilihan sampel memakai purposive sampling. Teknik yang dipakai untuk analisis data ialah regresi logistic yang dihitung memakai SPSS 25.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peluang karir berdampak positif bagi keputusan mahasiswa dalam menentukan jurusan akuntansi, sedangkan gender, kesulitan akuntansi dan fenomena sindrom impostor berdampak negatif bagi keputusan mahasiswa dalam menentukan jurusan akuntansiKata Kunci: Gender, Kesulitan akuntansi, Peluang Karir, Sindrom impostor, Akuntansi.

Intrinsic motivation, career exposure, and quality of life: How do they influence the accounting students’ career choice?

This study aimed to determine the factors that are considered by accounting students who choose careers as public accountants and private accountants. Three factors that became the focus of observation are intrinsic motivation, career exposure, and quality of life. Data collection in this research was organized in several public and private universities in Java. The survey was distributed online and obtained 445 valid questionnaires used to test the research model. The findings indicated that students who have more career information are more likely to choose a career as a public accountant. Besides, students who have a higher perception of the quality of life tend to choose a career as a private accountant. This study has not found significant evidence on the effect of intrinsic motivation on career choice. This study promotes accounting career institutions and universities in developing the interest of the younger generation in the accounting profession, be it public accountants or private accountants. Developing from the limitations in this study, further research can develop this accountant career research model by considering other factors, as well as observing accounting students in various demographic variations.
