“…In the latter case, two modes of dissemination of the condition from one site to another were possible: the E. coli were carried from one place to another through a hematogenous route during one of the episodes of bacteremia; and/or macrophages containing viable E. coli were responsible for dissemination of the disease to the secondary site. Malakoplakic cells in the veins have been reported by others (Yunis et al, 1967;Csapo et al). A simultaneous involvement of colon and mesenteric lymph nodes in some reported cases would suggest that spread of the condition could also occur through a lymphogenous route (Gonzales-Angulo et al, 1965;Yunis et al).…”
