Manufacture of high critical current multifilamentary tapes using the wire-in-tube technique

Abstract

Multifilamentary wire-in-tube tapes have been prepared using the powder-in-tube route and compared with those processed using the conventional multifilamentary procedure, processed under identical conditions and having similar superconducting packing fractions. Self-field measurements at 77 K show values of corresponding to a value of . Properties of the tapes such as versus field in the temperature range from 4 K to 77 K, versus field at 77 K and the tape a- axial field anisotropy at 77 K are compared and contrasted. Generally, as prepared, the wire-in-tube tapes were found to show similar properties to those found in conventional powder-in-tube tapes, with an optimum filamentary thickness .
