Manufacturing and Evaluation of Mechanical, Morphological, and Thermal Properties of Reduced Graphene Oxide-Reinforced Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Nanocomposites

Abstract: The aim of the present study is to examine the effect of the addition of carbon nanoparticles (σsp2 hybridization) on the mechanical properties of foamed polystyrene. In this work, we focus on the study of the impact of compressive stress, tensile strength, bending strength, thermal conductivity ratio (λ), and water absorption of expanded polystyrene (EPS) reinforced with reduced graphene oxide and graphite. The results were compared with pristine EPS and reduced graphene oxide-reinforced EPS. All the nanocomp… Show more

“…Though CPs based probes, for example, polyaniline [183,184] or PEDOT [185], do not communicate enormously visible light while layered indistinctly quite to be enough conducting. Reduced graphene oxide (rGO) probes, as less examined, need high-heat strengthening and are present regarding an array of degree too resistive [186][187][188].…”

“…During the reduction, RGO recovers the graphitic arrangements (partial recuperation of the sp 2 from sp 3 hybridization of GO) through the elimination of the oxygen-containing groups, which have been inserted in the oxidation step, thus, restoring the electronic properties of graphene [110]. This partial reduction and the exposure to some chemicals allow tailoring the conductivity, band-gap and optical features of the material [111,112].…”
