“…Still later, Huber and Herzberg 3 again reviewed the spectroscopy of BCl and adopted Barrow's result 1 of 127 kcal mol Ϫ1 . Srivastava and Farber 4 reported equilibrium measurements on the B-Cl system which were said to yield a thermochemical value of D 0 ‫ؠ‬ ͑BCl͒ in excellent agreement with the spectroscopic value of Barrow are significantly lower than the values reported earlier, [1][2][3][4][5][6] and the matter needs clarification.…”

“…The ion channels involving CI~ and C1 + are calculated using literature values for their ionization potentials [15,16]. The IPs of BC12 and BC1 have not been measured directly, and channels involving BC1 + and BC1 + use thermodynamic onsets of these ions from BC13 obtained by photoionization mass spectrometry [5]. If these ions turn on at their thermodynamic energy, then we obtain (indirectly) values of the ionization potentials for BC12 and BC1 of 7.71 and 10.26 eV respectively.…”

“…The He I photoelectron spectrum (PES) was measured over 20 years ago [4], the data have not been improved, and partial ionization cross-sections into the valence states of the parent ion have not been measured. There are limited data on the decay properties of the lowest states of BCI~-, but appearance energies for BCI~-, BCI~-and BC1 + have been measured by photoionization mass spectroscopy [5]; the value for BCI~-confirms the PES value for the adiabatic ionization potential (IP) of the X 2A~ state of the ion, and the values for BC1 f and BC1 + have been used to obtain heats of formation for these ions. The absorption and fluorescence excitation spectrum of BC13 above and below the lithium fluoride cut-off have been reported by Lee et al [6,7], and emissions assigned to both BC12 and BCI~-.…”

“…Investigations of the electron-impact ionization and photoionization of BCl 3 are limited [9][10][11][12]. A recent review of electron interactions with BCl 3 by Christophorou and Olthoff [13] remarks on the lack of data concerning the electron-collision cross-sections with BCl 3 and suggests that further experimental measurements of the total electron-impact ionization cross-section for BCl 3 are needed.…”
