Literacy has been defined in the literature frequently. Each new interpretation leads to the idea that the definition can change based on the relevant environment, instruments used and/or the intended objective and there might be different types of literacy including computer literacy, media literacy and visual literacy (Reinking, McKenna, Labbo and Kieffer, 1997; Tuman, 1994). This is also true for computer literacy and mathematical literacy. Therefore, there is a need for studies on computer and mathematical literacy. The objective of the present study was to determine the computer and mathematical literacy levels of secondary school 6th grade students and to reveal the correlation between computer and mathematical literacy levels. The study sample included students that attended provincial, district and village schools, as well as the private schools. The correlation between the computer and mathematical literacy levels of the students that were selected from various regions was determined and the differences based on these levels among the schools were also identified. Since the study aimed to determine the correlation between computer literacy and mathematics literacy of the 6th grade students, relational screening model was utilized in the study. Relational (correlative) studies aim to determine whether there is a correlation between two or more variables (Karasar, 2009). Study population included 139 6th grade students attending a secondary school in Turkey. In the study, "Mathematics Literacy Scale" and "Computer Literacy Scale," which were developed by the author and tested for validity and reliability were used. The obtained data were analyzed by specific statistical techniques. After the findings were analyzed, results were discussed based on the findings in the literature and necessary recommendations were presented.

Using Reigeluth’s Model to Increase Achievement and Mathematical Literacy Self-Efficacy for Eleventh Grade Students

Although mathematical literacy self-efficacy (belief that one can do mathematics) is essential to success in learning mathematics, it is not explicitly addressed in many educational institutions. The current paper used Reigeluth’s Model of increasing achievement and self-efficacy for mathematical literacy. It is one of the educational models that depend on the constructivist theory that contributes to helping the student to link his or her previous information with his or her new experiences. The sample consisted of 141 male and female students in the eleventh grade from Al Nahda School in Dhofar region, Oman. Students in the experimental group (N = 70) received instruction according to the Reigeluth model, and students in the control group (N = 71) received instruction in the traditional way. Students achievement and self-efficacy in mathematical literacy increased significantly more for the experimental group. There was relationship between achievement and self-efficacy on mathematical literacy for the student sample. It is recommended that the mathematics curriculum for all courses of education be prepared according to the Reigeluth model, and that mathematics teachers be trained in modern models for developing the achievement and self-effectiveness of their students’ mathematical literacy.

PurposeThis study aimed to evaluate the factors that determine an individual's decision to adopt human resources (HR) analytics. This study attempts to extend Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology - 2 (UTAUT2) to identify the lag rate in adoption.Design/methodology/approachResponses were obtained from 387 HR employees of the Banking Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) sector in metropolitan cities of India through nonprobabilistic purposive sampling. The analysis was performed through hierarchical regression, structural equation modeling and moderation of resistance to change.FindingsThe results suggest that performance expectancy, hedonic motivation and data availability are endorsed by proponents of the intention to adopt HR analytics. In contrast, effort expectancy, social influence, quantitative self-efficacy and habits did not influence behavioral intention (BI). Additionally, the actual use behavior (UB) of HR analytics was determined by BI and facilitating conditions. Furthermore, the moderating effect of resistance to change is explored.Practical implicationsThis study makes a significant contribution to the literature on the adoption of HR analytics. By appropriately concentrating on the adoption intention of HR analytics, organizations can intensify healthy employee relationships, thus encouraging the actual usage of HR analytics.Originality/valueThis study formulates a conceptual framework for the adoption of HR analytics that can be used by top management to formulate strategies for the implementation of HR analytics. Moreover, this study aimed to expand UTAUT2, emphasizing the concept of data availability and quantitative self-efficacy and examining the moderating role of resistance to change in the relationship between BI and UB.
