Materials Selection and Design Options Analysis for a Centrifugal Fan Impeller in a Horizontal Conveyor Dryer

Abstract: Comparative strength analysis of two popular options of the radial centrifugal fan impeller design used in horizontal conveyor dryer for fine-grained raw materials is presented. Three types of materials for impeller manufacturing—ASTM A36 steel, Hardox 450 steel and aluminium alloy 6061-T6 are considered. The finite element method (FEM) has been used to investigate stresses and deformations of the impeller within the operational speed range. Analysis shows that the better design is the impeller made of Hardox … Show more

“…The difference in the mechanical properties Based on the results described above, the findings of this study provide the greatest application potential in the industry because this method is very practical and can be employed to join fluid mechanical components [45], transmission shafts [46], aircraft components, aerospace components, automotive components, or axle shafts using FRW. To further evaluate the tensile strength of FRW of dissimilar polymer rods fabricated by AM technology, test specimens can be prepared according to standards from ASTM International [47][48][49]. Thus, the research results can provide more application value in the industry.…”

“…The stresses acting on the upper surface of the right push arm behind the tilt cylinder are also greater than those in other areas. Since the maximum stresses do not coincide with welded joints, the influence caused by the change of material properties can be neglected in the later analysis [33]. The maximum stresses of the push arms are due to the large bending moment caused by the instantaneous acceleration of the blade lifting.…”

“…It can be concluded that the rear parts of the supporting plates connected with the pitch arm and tilt cylinder on the push arms are most prone to generate cracks. Therefore, these positions should be optimized to reduce stress concentration [33].…”

“…Due to the high heterogeneity of the mining excavations, it is also challenging to develop a detailed geometric model for CFD simulations. Unlike unrestricted flows [3], geometry model in this case will define the computational domain. The model approach based on regular solids will again be a major simplification that will affect the results.…”
