Maternal and fetal characteristics for predicting risk of Cesarean section following induction of labor: pooled analysis of PROBAAT trials

Abstract: What are the novel findings of this work?We identified key maternal and fetal characteristics that predict the risk of Cesarean section for failure to progress or suspected fetal compromise following induction of labor. The direction and magnitude of these relationships differed depending on the indication for Cesarean section. Bishop score alone is not sufficient to predict the risk of Cesarean section. What are the clinical implications of this work?Identifying appropriate candidates for induction of labor i… Show more

“…However, we are a tertiary referral center dealing with higher‐risk profile cases. In addition, our trial inclusion criteria included exclusively nulliparous women with initially unfavorable cervices 17 and obstetric indication for labor induction such as diabetes, “nonreassuring fetal status (albeit with reassuring fetal heart rate tracing),” hypertension or large for dates, 18 and overweight‐obese 19 , which are all risk factors for cesarean delivery after failed labor induction.…”

“…To our excellent knowledge, the publication about the efficacy of dinoprostone vaginal insert in cervical ripening in the term pregnancy with oligohydramnios has remained limited. Especially, influencing factors relative to successful cervical ripening (SCR) have been differently described from this study to another study 15–18 . Thus, we conducted this study to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and success rate of dinoprostone 10 mg controlled‐release vaginal insert as well as finding some factors attributable to SCR at our center.…”

“…Cervical status, parity, body mass index (BMI), gestational age, and estimated fetal weight affect the success of IOL [ 9 , 10 ]. The most important predictor for successful IOL is the pre-induction cervical status.…”
