Matlab Based Design of Adaptive Filters Using Least Pth Norm: FIR vs IIR

Abstract: Adaptive filters are considered nonlinear systems; therefore their behavior analysis is more complicated than for fixed filters. As adaptive filters are self designing filters, their design can be considered less involved than in the case of digital filters with fixed coefficients. The paper discusses adaptive filters, adaptive filtering with various approaches, optimization methods, algorithms for a filter, IIR and FIR filter designs, in order to improve a prescribed performance criterion. Further least Pth n… Show more

“…In proposed work, least Pth-Norm IIR filter has been implemented for back EMF extraction. 38,39,44 During the filtering, it is assured that there should be least phase delay between the precise commutation point (terminal voltage ZCP) and ZCP of filtered back EMF. Discrete transfer function of proposed least Pth-Norm IIR filter the with numerator of first order and denominator of second order can be given as,…”

“…The smaller the mean square error, but the slower the processing time, the higher the rank of the filter. Coefficient regulators in adaptive filters can respond to changing environmental circumstances and system modifications [20][21] [22]. Butterworth filters have a passband amplitude response that is almost flat (maximally flat) with no ripple, making them superior to Chebyshev and Elliptic filters, which are also frequent filter designs.…”
