Maximizing the self-consumption of Solar-PV using Battery Energy Storage System in Samsø-Marina

Abstract: Samsøø is a medium sized Danish island located in the sea of Kattegat. Almost 90% of the island's production comes from renewable energy sources (RES) including wind and solarphotovoltaics. The fluctuating nature of these resources leads to its reduced utilization. Installing battery energy storage systems (BESS) at local communities or residences in the island not only improves the utilization efficiency but also increases the revenue to the utility/RES owners. This paper proposes a method for maximizing the … Show more

“…Nonetheless, the advantages of the V2G implementation are substantial, and the marina could techno-economically benefit in the future from the application of boat flexibility and EV bidirectional charging, enabling the integration of more renewable energy without additional grid reinvestment. The obtained results clearly show the improvements in the operation of Ballen marina's energy system, compared to the previous research in this area [28][29][30]45].…”

“…Within this framework, the batteries of the EVs should reach the SOC max level as soon as possible, taking into account the maximum charging power. The marina's BESS was scheduled in the most-cost-efficient way, utilising the optimisation problem (29).…”

“…Nevertheless, the majority of vessel-flexibility studies focus on optimal scheduling of generation and voyage, not considering the interactions between vessels and onshore electrical grid [23][24][25][26]. The boat demand flexibility can become an essential element of smart marina energy systems, complementing the integrated operation of renewable generation and BESSs [3,27,28].…”

“…One of the main solutions is the large-scale urban generation of renewable energy [6]. Solar, biomass and wind are the most commonly available RESs that can be used in cities to promote self-consumption [7]. In these cases, a strategy that facilitates the selfsufficiency is the integration of battery storage systems in connection with RES technologies which supply energy in a discontinuous way according to climatic conditions [8].…”
