Measurement of Average Moisture Content and Drying Kinetics for Single Particles, Droplets and Dryers

Fluidized bed spray agglomeration is used in the industry to increase the particle size and to improve several properties, for example, bulk density, flowability, and dissolution behavior of particulate products. Usually, a binder liquid is sprayed on a particle bed. If amorphous materials are used, spraying of pure water may cause agglomeration due to glass transition at wet spots on the particle surface. As no process models covering binder‐less spray agglomeration currently exist, a model based on a Monte Carlo method is presented. In this method, the process is described by events and processes on the single particle scale. Additionally, agglomeration experiments in a lab‐scale fluidized bed using three different maltodextrins are presented. For each experiment, a simulation was performed. This study presents a new approach to investigate the drying behavior and the structure of deposit resulting from drying of solid containing micro droplets. It is shown that deposit structure (porosity and "footprint") depends on drying conditions. This dependency may contribute to better understanding of particle-forming processes, such as fluidized bed coating. In the framework of this study, sessile droplets containing sodium benzoate dissolved in water were dried on thin glass plates in a small drying chamber. The drying conditions (temperature, moisture content and flow rate of drying gas) and material parameters (solid content of solution) were systematically varied. The drying rate of droplets was determined from the moisture balance of the drying gas. The final three-dimensional shape of dried sessile droplets was measured using white-light interferometry and transformed into a two-dimensional profile using a Monte Carlo method. Moreover the mean porosity of dried droplets was calculated. By comparison of structural information and process conditions it is shown that the drying process may have a large influence on deposit structure. Kandungan logam merupakan salah satu persyaratan yang ditetapkan dalam olahan pangan yaitu minuman teh seduh. Kandungan logam yang tinggi dapat berakibat buruk terhadap kesehatan dan lingkungan manusia, oleh karena itu oleh karena itu dilakukanlah kegiatan ini dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui rendemen serta cemaran logam pada teh Tiwai berbahan baku umbi dan daun bawang Tiwai Umbi dan daun bawang Tiwai yang berasal dari IKM Teh Tiwai di Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara. Umbi dan daun tanaman bawang Tiwai yang telah dibersihkan dan dipotong kemudian dikeringkan dengan menggunakan pengering sinar matahari selama 3 hari hingga kering dan pengering alat listrik selama 24 jam dengan suhu 50 O C yang dikeringkan secara kontinyu dimana suhu dan kelembabannya terpantau melalui laptop lalu di hitung rendemen (SNI 01-2891(SNI 01- :1998, warna teh Tiwai (SNI 01-2891(SNI 01- :1998, dan menganalisa kadar cemaran logam Pb, Cd dan Fe (SNI 01-2896(SNI 01- :1998. Hasil Penelitian diperoleh rendemen teh umbi, dan daun Tiwai dengan pengering listrik lebih besar dibandingkan dengan teh Tiwai yang dikeringkan dengan pengeringan sinar matahari. Kadar cemaran logam yang dimiliki teh umbi dan daun Tiwai dengan pengering listrik memenuhi batas maksimum dalam SNI 7387:2009 tentang batas maksimum cemaran logam berat dalam pangan. Warna teh daun Tiwai yaitu kuning muda dan teh umbi Tiwai adalah kuning jingga.
