Measurement of electric field distribution along composite insulators by integrated optical electric field sensor

Abstract: In order to meet the demands for the electric field measurement along the composite insulators simultaneously, such as intensive signal, fine insulation, passive and small size, a novel measurement system based on the core device, the integrated electro-optic sensor, was developed. First, the theory of the system and the sensor were introduced. Second, after fabrication, the input/output character was obtained and the calibration was implemented between two parallel square metal planes under power frequency. B… Show more

“…A length of the sample from high-voltage end metal fitting to the fifth piece of big sheds is in the test circuit, the sample suspended in the artificial climate chamber. Electric field distribution along the axis of the sample is measured, by using an electric field measurement system based on optoelectronic integrated technology [13]. When the probe is arranged 2 cm away from the solid surface, the measurements error is less than 5%, comparing with the simulation results.…”

“…Mach-Zehnder modulators have been also proposed for detection of intensive electric fields [109]. In this case, the length characterizing the two arms is 40 mm, with a distance of 60 μm, but at the same time an optical path difference is realized in order to obtain a bias of π/2 useful to reach an higher linear response.…”

“…Therefore, the leakage current of the insulator strings was measured, in which a light emitting diode (LED) was used to detect current signals as photoelectric conversion and light signal stability [7]. Many numerical methods have been introduced to ease the difficulty of precise measurements of electric fields including the use of charge simulation method to calculate the electric field distribution of insulators [8]. …”
