Measurement of plasma renin activity by semi-micro radioimmunoassay of generated angiotensin I.

Abstract: SYNOPSIS A semi-micro method for determination of plasma renin activity (PRA) by radioimmunoassay of generated angiotensin I (Al) is described. The method permits measurement of PRA on 250 pl of plasma without loss of specificity, sensitivity, accuracy or precision. The small sample size has considerable application in terms of investigation of infants and young children.A reference range was established for healthy children on free diets. There was a 15-fold decline in PRA with age from a mean value of 1404 pg… Show more

“…Urinary albumin was measured using a commercial ELISA kit (Randox Laboratories) where the sensitivity was 0.1 rag/1 and intra-and interassay CVs were 6% and 9%. PRA was measured by a semi-micro radio-immunoassay [18] and the intra-and interassay CVs were 5% and 10%-15%, respectively. Plasma and urine creatinines were measured utilising standard enzymatic and Jaff6 reactions, respectively.…”

“…Plasma renin activity was measured in venous blood after the patient had 2 h bedrest by radioimmunoassay of angiotensin I generated (Dillon et al, 1975). A midstream urine was obtained for urine analysis and culture.…”
