“…The PeV energy region is not only significant for the energydependent cosmic-ray anisotropy; it is also a region where the cosmic-ray energy spectrum shows noticeable fine structure and the chemical composition of the cosmic-ray flux changes (see for example Aartsen et al 2013c). In the future, we will focus on a detailed study of possible connections between the arrival direction anisotropy and the energy spectrum and chemical composition of the cosmic-ray flux.…”

“…Particle detector arrays like KASCADE-Grande [9] and IceTop [10] measure the electron-to-muon ratio of the secondary shower particles at ground level. This ratio depends on the mass of the primary particle but also on the age of the shower, which makes the technique susceptible to shower-to-shower fluctuations.…”

“…The angular dependence of the spectra reconstructed assuming H4a is used as a measure of the systematic uncertainty from composition. The energy spectrum measured in 2010-11 with the nearly complete IceTop detector (IT-73 with 73 of 81 stations in operation) [11] showed clearly that the spectrum between the knee and the ankle cannot be described by a single power law. The high resolution measurement with IceTop clarifies the structure seen in previous experiments.…”
