Today the growing level of automation and the new concept of online technologies are transforming the traditional industry. Value is generated with the help of Industry 4.0 technologies that not only increase the efficiency and agility of supply chains, create new products and offer new ways of connecting businesses and consumers but also have a major impact on the traditional tax system. This study aims at determining changes in the modern industrial economy and substantiating possible directions for transforming the tax system to adapt it to the requirements of Industry 4.0. The objective is to identify the relationship between the digitalization of the economy, the use of blockchain technologies, robotics, automation, M2M technologies offered by Industry 4.0, and taxation. The article demonstrates how these technologies influence taxes and proposes measures to address possible tax issues. The authors of the article have concluded that the reasons (and goals) for transforming the current tax system as a result of the development of Industry 4.0 technologies are as follows: 1) to increase or stabilize tax revenues to compensate for tax losses and finance new education needs; 2) to introduce innovations for the development of Industry 4.0 and further digitalization of the economy; 3) to create an automatic tax administration system.

PurposeThis study aims to assess residential energy consumption knowledge, attitudes, and practices in Abuja Municipality, providing insights for effective conservation strategies, reducing costs and mitigating environmental impact.Design/methodology/approachData for this study was collected through a cross-sectional survey conducted among a representative sample of the Nigerian population between February and April 2021. A total of 462 questionnaire responses were collected and subsequently analysed using SPSS. Descriptive statistics, including frequency count, percentages, mean, and standard deviation, were calculated. Additionally, inferential statistics were performed using Chi-Square analysis, with significant level set at p = 0.05 to draw meaningful conclusions from the data.FindingsThe study results indicate that out of the total respondents, 244 individuals (67.4%) demonstrated a profound knowledge of and good practice in energy utilisation. In comparison, 118 individuals (32.6%) exhibited poor knowledge and practice in energy saving. Moreover, the findings reveal a significant association between the sociodemographic factors of the respondents, building type, and their overall practice in energy utilisation. Statistical analysis shows significant? 2 values for each case: 8.563 (p = 0.003), 66.736 (p = 0.000), 60.866 (p = 0.000), 23.487 (p = 0.000), 37.877 (p = 0.000), and 92.334 (p = 0.000), respectively, where p < 0.05. These results highlight the importance of considering sociodemographic profiles and building characteristics when assessing general energy utilisation practices.Originality/valueThe research offers valuable insights into Nigerian energy usage behaviours and attitudes towards energy saving in residential buildings, contributing significantly to the knowledge base.

The paper aims at defining the management framework for community innovation labs (CILs) linked to higher education institutions (HEIs) by applying the Delphi method. CILs are regarded as experimental settings established in HEIs aimed at addressing societal challenges. Specifically, the research study investigated the following questions: (1) What is the HEI-based CIL purpose and role, which is beneficial to society; (2) What kinds of governance, business method, capabilities and core activities are necessary for the establishment of viable CILs in HEIs; and (3) What forms of added value generated by CILs have the most potential for benefiting society? Results indicate that during 2020s it is expected that CILs will play a significant role in designing the local, regional or country innovation agenda. Also, they are expected to establish networks of people and multi-disciplinary teams that can address various societal challenges, while aiming at catalysing deeper, more sustainable and more creative approaches to systemic change. In addition to reinforcing the conceptualisation of a HEI-based CIL, the research results indicate understandings of the role and priorities of HEIs in CILs. This, then, leaves open how a CIL can manifest across and within communities when operationalized through this developing management framework. The ongoing process of shaping the effective CIL governance and HEI collaboration calls for dialogue, exploration and pilot solutions.
