Measurement-oriented comparison of multiple regulations with GRL

Abstract: In recent years, intentional models have been adapted to capture and analyze compliance needs and requirements. Furthermore, intentional models have been used to identify the impact of regulations on organizational goals by helping to elicit different alternatives about the business operations supported by compliant business processes and services. In other works, intentional models based on measurement-frameworks have provided well-structured models of regulations and compliance alternatives. This paper integ… Show more

“…In order to handle a set of regulations, we aim to adapt our Hohfeldian meta-model and Legal GRL framework to support the method presented in a related measurement framework [16]. This method uses system-based and performance-based descriptions for the set of regulations to improve the analysis of convergence and divergence between regulations and business processes.…”

“…Early work in this area provided an approach to model software artifacts that contributed to compliance, focusing on scenarios where a single artifact alone could not establish compliance [15]. Recently, Ghanavati et al have begun examining requirements engineering modeling and analysis for systems that must comply with multiple regulations [17], [18], [19]. In this paper, we examine legal implementation readiness, which may benefit from an understanding of compliance contributions.…”

“…Ingolfo and Silva Souza developed an adaptive approach to legal requirements engineering intended to provide flexibility to requirements for systems that must comply with multiple legal texts in multiple jurisdictions [22]. Rifaut and Ghanavati support measurementbased methodologies for comparing multiple regulations using the Goal-Oriented Requirements Engineering Language (GRL) [19]. We consider multi-jurisdictional concerns to be out of scope for the work presented herein.…”

“…Automated methods, such as ReqSimile, can analyze sets of requirements and calculate similarity scores based on metrics such as word frequency or phrase structure [21]. This can also be achieved through goaloriented requirements language methodologies, such as those employed by Rifaut et al [26]. The metrics used for regulatory comparison in the water marking framework measure terms and phrases from each requirement that conceptually subsume those found in other requirements, as well as modality differences (may, shall, should) [2].…”
