“…The Voigt profile broadening by the terrestrial (N 2 -rich) atmosphere was considered for the calculations of spectral lines, with the wing cutoff of 35 cm À1 as suggested by Hartmann et al (2002) to best fit the spectra observed by Voyager/IRIS, for all molecules. Note that the pressure broadening of methane by air or nitrogen and by hydrogen are very similar, as suggested by Fox et al (1988) and Pine (1992), and our choice of the wing cutoff value (35 cm À1 ) is comparable to that of preceding studies (see Fig. 2 of Sromovsky et al (2012)).…”

“…The rotational constants are not available in the literature, although the band type has been recognized as perpendicular for a symmetric top molecule by Smith (1949). According to Herzberg (1945, p. 344), the band is designated as Rothman et al (2005) 4.5 × 10 −3b,c (troposphere and stratosphere) PH 3 0.075 (300/T ) 0.83d Butler et al (2006) 1.75 × 10 −5 p 1.95 (p in bars) e CH 3 D 0.075 (300/T ) 0.5f KG 2.5-4.5 × 10 −7b (troposphere and stratosphere) 0.075 (300/T ) 0.5f This work 2.5 × 10 −7b (troposphere and stratosphere) C 2 H 2 0.093 (294/T ) 0.75g HITRAN2004, Rothman et al (2005) 3.4 × 10 −7h (stratospheric cutoff ∼ 15 mbar) C 2 H 6 (ν 7 ) 0.115 (296/T ) 0.942i Kim (2003) 9 ± 4 × 10 −6 (∼µbar) (ν 3 + ν 9 + ν 11 ) 0.115 (296/T ) 0.942i This work 6.7 + 3.3/−2.3 × 10 −6j (stratospheric cutoff ∼ 10 mbar) a Fox et al (1988). b Lellouch et al (2001).…”
