Mechanical and dielectric properties of cobalt–zinc nanoferrite/nitrile butadiene rubber composites

Abstract: Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) samples filled with cobalt–zinc (Co-Zn) ferrite nanoparticles (Co1− xZn xFe2O4, where x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 0.9, 0.95 and 1) were prepared. The structure and morphology of Co-Zn ferrite nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, while the structure of the Co-Zn nanoferrite-filled NBR composites was studied using scanning electron microscopy and FTIR spectroscopy. The influence… Show more

“…The chemicals and methods for all preparations are as we mentioned in previous research. [15] 3 | CHARACTERIZATION X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns were obtained by (X'Pert Graphics, Germany) diffractometer with CuK α radiation (λ = 1.54056 Å). The data recorded from (2θ = 10 to 2θ = 80 ) were used to identify the crystal structure of the ferrite samples.…”

“…The nanocomposites showed remarkable improvements in rheological, mechanical, and dielectric properties up to x = 0.8. [15] This means that 0.8 Zn concentration was proved to have the optimum properties. Consequently, Co-Zn nanoferrite with chemical formula Co 0.2 Zn 0.8 Fe 2 O 4 (i.e., Zn concentration = 0.8) was chosen as a base for investigations in this paper.…”

“…To measure the tensile properties, dumbbell-shaped specimens were prepared according to ASTM D412. 31 According to ASTM D624, several pieces of unnotched 90 angle test pieces were made for tearing strength measurement. The tensile and tearing tests were performed on the same universal testing machine (TCS-2000, Taiwan GOTECH Testing Machines Inc., China) at a crosshead speed of 500 mm min À1 .…”

“…With the development of the rubber industry, more and more requirements are needed for rubber products, but pure rubber is not only expensive but also has low strength, 1 poor heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. 2 Therefore, it is usually necessary to add fillers to it, which can improve its mechanical properties by reducing the cost of rubber production greatly. The suitable filler to reinforce rubber has been a hot research topic.…”
