Mechanical and Electrical Characterization of Carbon Fiber/Bucky Paper/Zinc Oxide Hybrid Composites

Abstract: Abstract:The quest for multifunctional carbon fiber reinforced composites (CFRPs) expedited the use of several nano reinforcements such as zinc oxide nanorods (ZnO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Zinc oxide is a semi-conductor with good piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties. These properties could be transmitted to CFRPs when a nanophase of ZnO is embedded within CFRPs. In lieu of ZnO nanorods, Bucky paper comprising mat of CNTs could be sandwiched in-between composite laminae to construct a functionally gra… Show more

“…The influence of sintering temperature was generally not considered until now, with most varistor manufacturers taking constant values of approx. 1200-1300 degrees Celsius for sintering, values taken from the usual ceramics area, applied as such and for semiconductor ceramics [23].…”

“…The measurements shall be made at a voltage U = 460 V, which corresponds to the operating coefficients at the stationary thermal stability limit [21]: where, C = U/U N , the ratio between the applied and the nominal voltage. Following the measurements made, the values of the stationary currents were determined as:…”

“…This investigation focuses on revealing the changes in the dynamic mechanical properties and activation energy of a woven CFRP as consequences of adding CNTs and ZnO nanofillers, individually or combined, at the interface of The CFRPs. In our previous work [47], the addition of Bucky paper and ZnO nanorods was studied. The planar orientation of CNTs in Bucky paper resulted in a weak adhesion to the epoxy matrix at the interface.…”
