Mechanical Characterization Of Mmt Nano Clay/Epoxy/ Basalt Fiber Composites

Abstract: The importance of composite fibers have been rapidly increasing since the inception of its discovery, in almost every engineering field. They possess beneficial properties such as low weight, high strength, highly resistive towards corrosion which makes them unique. The objective of present study is to fabricate composite using epoxy as polymer and basalt fiber as reinforcement and to investigate the influence of dispersing MMT Nano clay (Montmorillonite Nano-clay) in polymer. Conventional hand lay-up techniqu… Show more

“…At the same time, when the BF content reaches 0.20%, the compressive strength of the MOC composites was even lower than that of the baseline specimens without fiber doping. This trend is consistent with the findings of Ramnath et al [17][18][19]. The smooth and chemically inert surface of BF is easy to pull out when the matrix is subjected to large external forces, so the effect of enhancing the compressive strength of the material is limited.…”

“…20 The hand lay-up process of basalt/flax hybrid natural fiber composite with epoxy as a matrix shows the improvement in the mechanical properties for the increased basalt fiber content. 21 The evaluation of polymer concrete, with basalt powder, shows the improvement in the mechanical properties with increasing epoxy to basalt powder weight percentage by 25%. 22 The thermal and mechanical properties were improved by the addition of basalt powder during the investigation of mechanical and thermal properties on basalt fiber hybrid epoxy composites.…”
