Mechanical properties of cerium oxide-modified vulcanised natural rubber at elevated temperature

Abstract: Cerium oxide (CeO 2 ) was used as the reinforcement filler to improve the mechanical properties of rubbers. Rubber components are often used at high temperature, so the mechanical properties of CeO 2 -modified vulcanised natural rubbers (NR/CeO 2 ) were investigated at elevated temperatures. The tensile properties, stress relaxation and creep recovery response were studied from 30°C to 150°C. NR/CeO 2 demonstrated higher crosslink density and elastic modulus. The degradation of elastic modulus could be allevia… Show more

“…Since the polymer experienced viscous flow, full recovery is not reached resulting in permanent deformation as shown in Figure 5. [ 36–38 ] At 25°C, 6PPD and NR‐ g ‐ p PDAM improved the creep behavior of the EPDM vulcanizates. The creep strain of V‐(6PPD) and V‐(NR‐ g ‐ p PDAM) decreased by 9.4% and 11% compared with V‐(blank).…”

“…Since the polymer experienced viscous flow, full recovery is not reached resulting in permanent deformation as shown in Figure 5. [36][37][38] The creep deformation of V-(NR-g-pPDAM) under the same load at 80 C significantly lowered than that of the V-(6PPD) and V-(blank). Whereas, NR-g-pPDAM enhanced the bonding with the EPDM vulcanizate as observed in Scheme 3.…”

“…The accumulation of ratchetting strain can damage the material and reduce the fatigue life. Research shows that the stress amplitude, mean stress, 15 thermal ageing, 16 high‐temperature environment, 17 and filler 18 have essential impacts on the uniaxial ratchet behaviour. The loading mode, 19 axial stress shear strain amplitude, shear strain rate, and its history have important impacts on the multiaxial ratchet behaviour.…”
