Mechanism of 1:1 nonstoichiometric short-range ordering in La-doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 relaxor ferroelectrics

Abstract: The mechanism of the 1:1 nonstoichiometric short-range ordering in donor-doped Pb(B′1/3B″1/3)O3-type relaxor perovskites was examined using the La2O3-doped Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 (PMN) system as a typical example. Based on the dielectric analysis and the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation, the observed increase in the degree of diffuse phase transition (DPT) in the presence of La2O3 was interpreted as the enhancement of the 1:1 nonstoichiometric short-range ordering accompanied with the growth of the… Show more

“…From the point of application, the degree of DPT is essential for precision displacement controllers and MLCCs [7]. Lanthanum doping on the A-site of PMN-based relaxor system has been investigated by several workers in some details [8]. The results demonstrate that the thermostability of electrostriction and dielectric permittivity can be improved by La-doping, thus enhancing the degree of diffuse phase transition (DPT).…”

“…According to the earlier studies, 15,18,38 donor doping in the A-site (e.g., by La 3+ ions) promotes the growth of the 1:1 ordered domains by reducing the charge imbalance. This doping does not increase the number density of the ordered nanodomains but does promote the growth of the size of the ordered domains.…”
