Mechanism of Rock Bursts Induced by the Synthetic Action of “Roof Bending and Rock Pillar Prying” in Subvertical Extra-Thick Coal Seams

Abstract: When studying the rock burst mechanism in subvertical extra-thick coal seams in the Wudong coal mine in Xinjiang, China, most studies focus on rock pillars, while the effect of the roof on rock bursts is usually ignored. In this paper, a rock burst mechanism in subvertical extra-thick coal seams under the control of a “roof-rock pillar” is proposed. A theoretical analysis is first performed to explain the effect of roof-rock pillar combinations on rock bursts in coal seams. Numerical modeling and microseismic … Show more

“…Unlike Zhang et al (2021), Singh et al (2007), and Sabar et al (2020), our work focuses on the coal quality evaluation problems and the coal samples that come from Xinjiang, China. This paper also studies the coal characteristic of the Xinjiang coalfield but is different from Li (2016), Meng (2019), andWu et al (2021). Specifically, our paper establishes a coal quality evaluation model using an improved fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, which combines the super-standard multiple methods and the double-weight super-standard weighting method.…”

“…Another accident occurred on February 22, 2020, in the Xinjulong mine in Shandong, resulting in four deaths and the loss of 18 million RMB. In the aforementioned incidents, the tunnelcut coal areas were subjected to the lateral abutment pressure of the goafs and mining stress in the working face, which affected the associated geological structures and accumulated a significant amount of strain energy in the areas in question (Cui et al, 2021;Liu et al, 2021;Tian et al, 2021;Wu et al, 2021). Therefore, failure of overlying strata readily occurred over a wide area, resulting in rock bursts.…”
