“…This indicates students' good understanding of the rhetorical function of each move and control of the degree of authorial voice expressed in each move. As pointed out by Li (2020), abstracts function to inform and persuade readers. While students in both groups are aware of discipline-specific knowledge of abstracts, the American students seemed to promote their research more consciously with the use of a variety of stance devices than the Chinese students in the PTR, DTM, and STF moves.…”
