Medical aspects of global warming

Abstract: Warming can be demonstrated by the observed changes that have already occurred in the environment, particularly the thinning of polar ice caps. The United States Global Research Program has been established to coordinate research activities, which responds to issues deemed important by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Research issues pertain to the scientific uncertainties in the greenhouse effect, temperature measurements at various atmospheric levels and latitudes, and impact on bio… Show more

“…The dynamics of human pathogens are closely linked to climate pattern (Pascual et al, 2000) and the typical concentration of human pathogens varies substantially with seasonality. In addition, rapid climate change by global warming is altering the ecosystem of microorganisms and regions with an endemic or epidemic might shift drastically (Yoganathan and Rom, 2001). The study of the emergence of infectious diseases is likely to become increasingly important with increases in human and livestock population (Wolfe et al, 2007) and increasing stress placed on aquatic reservoirs (Häder et al, 1998).…”

“…Increased ultraviolet light, which accompanies atmospheric ozone depletion, has been shown to cause immunosuppression in animals and humans. 75 Heat stress has also been associated with an increase in the number of human patients admitted for pulmonary and cardiovascular disease-related problems 86 and could negatively affect primate populations in many arid regions. As our studies have documented, local climate change in Kibale National Park, Uganda, may disrupt fruiting or flowering patterns and place nutritional stresses on primate populations.…”

“…They have not substantiated exactly how changes upward or downward in their statistic might affect dynamics and local states within the atmosphere and oceans. However that has not stopped many remarkable attributions of cause: small increases in their global statistic have been cited to explain hurricane formation [13], viral infections in frogs [14], encephalitis in horses and even pulmonary disease, delirium and suicide in humans [15].…”
