“…Similar to the findings of earlier literature, HS patients (= total group of assessed HS patients) had a higher BMI and waist circumference, but consumed less kilocalories and carbohydrates than the control group 21 . It is previously described that losing weight is more complex than solely lowering kilocalorie intake, which might contribute to the difference in the HS patients' low kilocalorie intake and inversely high BMI 22,23 .…”

“…In fact, MD represents a balanced nutritional model and is able to improve the lowgrade inflammation and the gut microbiota alterations typical of visceral obesity [76,77], MS, and non-communicable or inflammatory diseases [41,78,79].…”

“…In the particular case of visceral adiposity, they are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity and mortality [ 51 ]. The biological mechanisms linked to the excess of visceral fat, among which low-grade chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and altered adipokine pattern, also favor the development of other pathological conditions such as osteoarticular [ 52 ], respiratory [ 53 ], dermatological [ 54 ] diseases, or some types of cancer [ 55 ]. Furthermore, people with overweight or obesity frequently show sleep [ 56 ] and psychological disturbances [ 57 ] which in turn could worsen the outcome of obesity.…”
