“…The salt mix also had a positive linear effect on β-carotene concentration ( p < 0.05) in the present study. These results were not in agreement with the findings of Yan et al (2013) who reported non-significant linear effects of glucose, wheat bran extract and MgSO 4 percentages in the media as the variables in the RSM optimization study. They reported significant ( p < 0.05) quadratic effects of glucose and wheat bran extract.…”

“…They used RSM to determine the optimum values of linoleic acid, kerosene and antioxidant supplementation in molasses solution, and by using the optimum concentrations of the media supplements, they achieved a considerably high β-carotene concentration (790 mg/l). Yan et al (2013) also reported substantially high β-carotene concentration (643 mg/l) using the optimized media including glucose, wheat bran extract, MgSO 4 , soybean oil, thiamine, soy bean meal and KH 2 PO 4 . It is clearly seen from the results of the various studies that optimization using RSM works well in the determination of the optimal conditions for maximum β-carotene concentration.…”

“…Most of the previous research on the fermentation process has been concerned with practical aspects of improving the overall carotenoid yield from producing cells by studying the effect of some variables as temperature, pH, nutrient concentration, mineral type, agitation speed, aeration, and light irradiation intensity . From an engineering point of view, the rate of the reaction in industrial processes is a principal factor affecting the cost effectiveness.…”

“…They added remarkable amount of Vitamin A acetate (1000 mg/L) to the culture medium which is an expensive component. Yan et al (2013) investigated the production of b-carotene in a complex medium and produced 669 mg/L b-carotene in optimum condition in shake flask. With considering glucose as main carbon source in their investigation, the productivity of b-carotene based on carbon source was 9.3 mg/g glucose which is approximately two times less than that of obtained in this study.…”
