“…One hurdle in pursuing an investigation of the CSP in clinical population, is the uncertainty regarding the prevalence of CSP in healthy adults, stemming from differences in detection method, definition criteria, and homogeneity of the population (23,(28)(29)(30)(31)(32)(33). Abnormally large CSP was repeatedly linked to schizophrenia (23,28,38,(29)(30)(31)(32)(34)(35)(36)(37), bipolar disorders (31,39,40), and others psychopathologies (41,42), when compared to healthy controls. Yet, other studies did not find higher rates of enlarged CSP in schizophrenia (43)(44)(45) or other psychiatric disorders(46-49).…”

“…112,113 Finally, groups of psychiatrists based at other public universities in different states in Brazil have regularly published wellcited systematic reviews and meta-analyses on several neuroimaging topics. [114][115][116][117][118][119][120][121][122][123][124][125] There are two additional Brazilian research centers dedicated primarily to neurophysiology and neurology that deserve to be mentioned here. At the privately funded Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital in Sã o Paulo, a group of neuroradiologists and neuroscientists has conducted a series of MRI investigations evaluating interventions of potential interest to psychiatry using yoga-based and other meditation methods.…”

“…During normal fetal development, the two leaves of the septum are separated and form a cavity referred to as the cavum septum pellucidum (CSP), fusing back together around 36 weeks gestation so that only about one-third of term infants maintain the fetal state ( 3 ). While the presence of a CSP is considered to be a normal neurodevelopmental anatomical variation in some people ( 4 , 5 ), it is also considered to be a neurodevelopmental abnormality in people with bipolar disorder ( 6 8 ), posttraumatic stress disorder ( 9 , 10 ), schizophrenia spectrum disorders ( 6 , 8 , 11 , 12 ), and telomere biology disorders ( 13 ). A substantial percentage of the general population has a CSP, and the reported percentages vary considerably based on the method used to identify it.…”
